Current Transformers

Electric Current Transformers (CT's) are designed to measure the actual currents in power systems and to produce proportional currents in their secondary windings. The CT output current can be used for: 

measuring purposes (the CT lowers the current to be suitable for metering instrument) or,
- protection of the power circuit (input current for protection relays).  

ITL Range

ITL is a UK leading instrument transformers manufacturer. Our Current transformers are found in a number of applications and our range is wide enough to cover most of our customers’ needs. In our East Kilbride facility we manufacture both protection and measuring current transformers.

To ensure the best solution for each project our product line includes ring type CT, square CT, rectangular CT, and oval CT (also called stadium CT).

In order to achieve variability of our solutions we offer resin cast transformers, vacuum impregnated transformers, and plastic mould option.

Designing & manufacturing a range of high quality, Voltage transformers in three different frame sizes for both measuring and protection duties. Transformers are designed to comply with the requirements of IEC 60044-2 or other international standards as required and can be supplied to satisfy most Low Voltage applications. We are an instrument transformers manufacturer with a lot of experience (over 40 years) and our Voltage Transformers are of the highest quality on the market.

ITL Range

Low voltage instrument transformers (VTs) are configured as single phase (1PH) measurement or single phase (1PH) protection.

Three phase (3PH) voltage transformers for measurement or protection are normally connected star / star, utilise the same standard frames in sets of three, mounted on a common base, thereby ensuring magnetic equality between phases.

Instrument Transformers also have a range of medium voltage epoxy resin or oil filled impregnated paper instrument voltage transformers suitable for indoor and outdoor installation.

Photovoltaic CT

Photovoltaic (PV) power plants use a bundled array of solar cells to produce DC-current. Depending on the power plant design many panels are joined together which then converts from DC to AC via a rectifier. Once converted to AC traditional current transformers can be installed for tariff measurement (either sub metering or customer metering) application or in conjunction with a protection relay for equipment protection.

For Wind Turbines above 200kW, protective current transformers are installed within the DNO side of the equipment container connected in circuit with the protection relay and the ring main unit.
On smaller installations plastic case or ring type metering current transformers can be installed prior to the Kilowatthour (kWh) device for independent measurement of power. Protection is provided by a G59 relaywhich once configured provides disconnection from the grid in the event of a failure in voltage, frequency, phase or loss of mains.

Differential Protection CT

Using differential protection instrument transformers is a reliable method of protecting generators, transformers, switchgear and power transmission lines from the effects of internal faults.

These differential protection schemes include matched protection class current transformers which measure the incoming and outgoing currents. If the measured incoming / outgoing current is not within tolerance this will typically be as a result of a fault in the protection scheme.
